You basically select a reference point that you want to track. Here's my first attempt at motion tracking in after effects. It took less than 30 minutes to do 350 frames :D. Positioning, scaling and rotating 350 frames would have taken me hours in photoshop or gimp.

I still use gimp over Photoshop for almost everything because it's what I'm used to, but the animation timeline in Photoshop is the main reason I keep it installed. It probably cuts my time in half...
