Just came across this quote
Seems reasonable... interesting food for thought at least.
Lets gather some wisdom for parenting, as Lord knows none of us know what we're doing, lol
I never heard of William Martin before.
Art by Marla Frazee
“Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself.”

Don't be selfish, preserve this world for the next generations.
I'll never long for what might have been
Regret won't waste my life again
I won't look back I'll fight to remain

Regret won't waste my life again

^ I can dig this, and thought the same
However, the last line is: "The extraordinary will take care of itself.”
As in, whatever superstar might lie in a child will come out on its own... not because the parents pushed it.

theres a difference between guidance and pushing at the end of the day
People say they all want the truth, but when they are confronted with a truth that disagrees with them, they balk at it as if it were an unwanted zombie apocalypse come to destroy civilization.
and of course it also depends on the kid!
Some kids its clear they are already set for some kind of greatness. If this is so, help them along to believe/actualize it.
If another child is more quiet and has a different kind of gift, go with that too.
I made a thread about that BJJ prodigy me/my son train with... viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1786&hilit=Prodigy
I talk to his dad a lot while watching the kids classes, and have really come to admire they way he handles it. I was worried that his dad is the one pushing him, but I don't think so. The kid is simply as passionate as anyone could be about BJJ, and the dad is following. What else can you do?
But not all kids are like that. For others, perhaps the OP is a better answer. As long as the kid is HAPPY, I think that's always my main concern. ...and people find it in the most unique of places!
Parenting is about realizing that every kid is totally different, though we all share common traits. That's why public school and common core ideas suck so bad.
