Folk song "Barrett's Privateers"

I found this really catchy folk song on youtube. Its a sea shanty, which is the style of music traditionally sung on the open sea.

Badass

Reminds of me of Irish music

An Irishman saved my life once and I ended up crashing at his pad for a few nights. While I was there he played his dad's old Irish records and explained to me what all the songs were about.

He made me a tape of some of the favourites and I used to travel with it in my walkman for many a mile... but alas, cassette tapes all die one day, and my irish tunes are no more.

Here are a couple I remember liking best:

I want this one sung at my funeral:

Also a HUGE fan of Sinead O'Connor... (one of my music's holy trinity)

Tons of hard Irish magic. I gotta get there one day...

Here is her singing a GREAT Irish tune... and then doing the same song as a reggae cover:

Apparently it is disguised as a love song, but is actually about Ireland's relationship to England:

Apparently, if you sing this in Northern Ireland you get arrested, lol:

Also a huge Pogues/Shane McGowan fan

I went to see him once but he had to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning and never showed up, lol

You know after the Pogues kicked him out (or something to that effect) he started his own band, right?

I like it in many ways better than the Pogues:

this is a good fuckin tune:
