Who here could do Surgery?

Postby Masato » Fri Jul 14, 2017 3:14 pm

Hey all

I've recently been embarrassingly reminded of how squeamish I am when it comes to bodily injury and nasty stuff like that. I didn't even watch my own kids being born, lol

Who is good with that stuff? I find it amazing that there are surgeons etc out there who can handle it fine. Some may even dig it.

What makes one so uncomfortable, and another not? Is it just experience?

Who here would make a good surgeon?

What is the gnarliest thing you've had to deal with?

I cut the cord when my kid was born.

I could do some first aid, but won't try to cut out your appendix or anything. Don't be squeamish Masato, learn to care for yourself and others.

St. John's ambulance and Red Cross have first aid courses. Look into it.

Stop being a bitch and learn to save a life if need be. You'd be grateful if someone did it for you too.

I'd give it a go if I've got a volunteer.

I watched the surgeon stitch my wife's stomach muscles back together after a caesarean, that was pretty cool.

After my friend cut himself nearly to the bone with a chainsaw, I had to bandage it and take him to the hospital (he didn't volunteer for me to do the surgery). That was pretty gruesome but the worse part was worrying and the indecisiveness feeling of not sure you're making the right decision - whether to rush to hospital, or bandage first or call an ambulance.

I also used to work in a butcher store so have hacked up my fair share of animal meat and organs.

Well, I was a medic. Really though, I reckon I could perform top-notch first aid, did a few years back and the guy was alright after. Fucking surgery though? Hell no.

I love it and assist in any procedures I can.
One of the gnarliest (sp?) things I've seen was a woman who shot herself in the mouth with a shotgun, side to side. When she tried to talk it looked like the predator but floppy and spewing blood.
One of the coolest was watching a surgeon drill a hole in a kid's head with a hand crank drill. The drill looked like it came out of some old horror movie. It squeaked, too. Lol which made some of the nurses have to leave.

Did you kill any of them, do you think?

What did you stab them with, where, and why?
