Skatepark I found w/ Lil Masato

Wow so my kid is getting into scootering, and there is a boy at his BJJ club who is right into it and he invited us to this place in a neighboring town.

Its way at the back of some industrial section in a warehouse you would never find it without directions but it's awesome, it looks like a level from a Tony Hawk video game lol

The kid who invited us is really good, apparently his mom drops him off at noon and picks him up at 11pm and he just stays all day, bring a lunch etc

You know what's weird??

NO SKATEBOARDS!! I didn't see a single one.

They had a small shop for fixing/renting/selling gear but it was all scooters! The industry has flipped, scooters have taken over.

The guy was telling me about birthday party revenue etc, apparently they figured out that scootering is 100x easier than skateboarding and if they cater to it they will get way more moms and dads to come pay for their kids

The summer's almost over and I never got to go longboarding with What

I tried to explain to my kid that less than a few decades ago skateparks barely existed because skaters just used the whole city to go and play and look for cool shit to skate on. Before that in the 70's they would hop fences to go skate in people's empty swimming pools! But city by-laws and private property/liability assholes kept running them off as criminals and complaining about the problem so the city started building skateparks with our tax dollars to keep them off the streets. Then others cashed in and made private ones.

Now its not even skateboards, lol its scooters.

I've watched another anti-culture become mainstream industry. what times
