3rd Bass

Postby Masato » Wed Sep 05, 2018 9:54 pm

So when I was in like Grade 9, 10, 11 my friends and I were all into rap music. This was extra extra cool cuz we grew up in a hick logging town in northern BC with like zero black folks, everyone listened to Guns n Roses and Metallica n shit lol

I grew out of that phase but man we loved it back in the day.

One of my favorite groups was 3rd Bass. I had completely forgotten about them for decades, and just remembered them and decided to check em out again for nostalgia.

Man, I had good taste in rap!!! :D :D

Here is MC Serch telling a story of how MC Hammer had put a hit on them back in the day:

Here is another story of Public Enemy member Professor Griff getting a fight with MC Serch:

Of all the rap I used to listen to, the only albums I still have and enjoy are Public Enemy.

I may have to get that 3rd Bass Cactus album though, great stuff

Hope I'm not hijacking your thread... Maybe you already know The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy... Best 90's hip hop group IMO...

Not hijacking at all... I was actually hoping this might turn into a 80's/90's rap nostalgia thread :D

I had that album too! It is great for sure. I also remember member Michael Franti going his own way and forming SPEARHEAD, which wasn't rap but was some pretty good stuff (I only had 1 album; HOME which I can't find a full album link to... I see other full albums maybe I'll have a listen today)

Now Michael Franti has gone solo and seems to sing just happy songs about sunshine and stuff, lol

Interesting evolution for the guy

What other oldschool rap was good?

*edit: why I can't find full albums anymore on YouTube? I used to just type in 'Full Album' and would usually find it. Do you think YouTube has started pulling these??

PS: Can I make an avatar for you, shankara? (you also never finished your story of how/why you're stuck in Switzerland :D)

Listening to Disposable Heroes now... I had forgotten how political it was!!

I think I was more influenced towards anti-government/media in my youth than I'd realized at the time, it all kicked in later in life but looking back now I see how many seeds had been plated by listening to certain music

90's is a bit before my time, good to be introduced to some stuff I haven't heard yet.

Digable Planets, Pharcyde, Funkdoobiest, Gangstarr, Jeru Da Damaja were my 90s hip hop fix.
