Hey all.
Apparently these brands are all disappearing, changing their branding because they have been deemed racist.
From what I have seen, this claim and hype has been mostly pushed by the mainstream media, if you search these terms you will notice all MSM links come up. I tried to find some simple discussion or debate or even a dissenting voice on the issue and its not easy to find in regular searches.
My question is how are these racist?
These are all handsome individuals, proudly displayed as the face of loved household products.
Honestly, what am I missing? Perhaps there is some history behind these brands that I am unaware of?
Because if not, I can't quite grasp how having a black person as a branding name/image = racist.
I remember Ms Buttersworth commercials as a kid, lol, thought she was a sweet character. Is it really demeaning somehow?
Explain why these are racist?
The only thing offensive about Aunt Jemima to me is the fact that its not even maple syrup, its just straight up pure cancer-causing GMO glocose poison they pump into children at ridiculous price markups

Not allowed black caricatures
People say they all want the truth, but when they are confronted with a truth that disagrees with them, they balk at it as if it were an unwanted zombie apocalypse come to destroy civilization.

OK, so what are the caricatures here?
I would agree if they are demeaning caricatures, but I find these particular characters to be quite dignified and respectable, maybe my white eyes don't see the problem. If some black folks do I can respect I just would like to hear it articulated
lol I am suddenly getting flashbacks of Tom& Jerry cartoons. THOSE were racist caricatures, lol
There are more offensive black caricatures in any given Hollywood movie than this imo.
To be honest I'm surprised with all the BLM hype right now that I haven't seen much addressing how fucking obscenely racist Hollywood is and always has been. Talk about perpetuating demeaning stereotypes, my god.
Pop music too.
Idolizing buffonery.
Free Mrs Buttersworth!

Of course you are right, but they don't fit the current narrative

For aunt Jemina the brand is like 150 years old and if you go back to the early depictions they are caricature-ish but actually a lot less so than what Disney for example was showing at the time. The others just piggy backing on the Jemima thing so people get their outrage porn fix. I remember a funny thread on sherdog where someone made a hype thread for Rumble and gave him the nickname "aunt Jemima" and some outraged white knight jumps in calling it racist telling him to explain why he nicknamed him aunt Jemima and the guy replies "obviously because he pancakes people"
