The biggest change in the 80's was the introduction of MTV. Music was always regional until then. I remember going to large chain retail stores looking for an REO Speedwagon album. I couldn't find it and most people didn't know who they were even though they went platinum in the midwest alone.
Then all across the country because of MTV everyone was listening to the same stuff. Plus with MTV being video oriented everyone started seeing the same styles. Eventually this put everyone on the same page musically.

And eventually all pop music becomes homogenous and all pop music carries the same over arching message from a societa lpoint of view

I also say that the greatest pieces of cinema came out of the 80s, it could just be the old man in me standing on the lawn shaking my fist, but I don't think so. For example, has there been a more poignant horror movie than the original exorcist? Platoon?the list is long

80's had great movies. Goodfellow, Braveheart, Gladiator etc
