I hadn't heard that. I've heard lots of more esoteric roots of the word 'Columbia', but I can't say I'm confident if any of it is really true.

I just mean the nation of Columbia has a big Pacific coast just like BC. The name is derived from Columbus(the dude) of course. -ia is the Latin suffic for "land". The etymology of Columbus's name is ultimately Greek meaning dove/diver.
