This was a calibrated, negotiated and agreed up by the allies counter strike. I think the main purpose was to demonstrate to the Shia resistance in the Arab world Iranian resolve; and to show the Israelis some advanced weapons tech which reportedly may have included a hypersonic glide vehicle launched from Iranian territory which struck an Israeli military base. This is all over Russian Telegram and would seem to indicate to me high level cooperation between BRICS partners Iran, Russia, and China in the military tech area.

This would also mean that, as the US has done with Ukraine, Russia and China must be providing crucial satellite guidance to the Iranian allies. In that sense, it could be considered WW3. But really, using this criteria we could argue WW3 began in 2022 in Ukraine, or even 2015 in Syria or 2014 in Ukraine.
