The UFC's year-end show is all about the bantamweights.
Former 135-pound champion T.J. Dillashaw is targeted to meet John Lineker at UFC 207 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, sources confirmed Wednesday. The bout was initially reported by ESPN on Tuesday night. The UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
Dillashaw (13-3) was hoping to get a title shot against Dominick Cruz, the man who beat him for the title back in January, but he'll at least be on the same card as the title bout. Cruz defends the belt against Cody Garbrandt, Dillashaw's former teammate, in the co-main event of UFC 207. Dillashaw, 30, rebounded from the loss to Cruz with a unanimous decision victory over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 200 in July.
Lineker (29-7) has won six in a row and is coming off a split decision win over John Dodson last month. "Hands of Stone" has looked very good since moving up to bantamweight, where he is now 4-0 in the UFC. Lineker, 26, a former flyweight contender, has not lost since 2014.
UFC 207 is headlined by a women's bantamweight title fight between champion Amanda Nunes and the former champ Ronda Rousey. Rousey, the biggest mainstream star in UFC history, said Tuesday on "Ellen" that it'll be one of the last fights of her career. Also on the card, former heavyweight champions Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum face off in a big rematch.
