The story of a traveling warrior: Changpuek S. Kaewsuek

Postby Luigi » Sat Nov 05, 2016 5:35 pm

Here is a mini documentary I found on the former 140 lbs champion of Rajadamnern stadium, Changpuek S. Kaewsuek(his name literally means "the crazy elephant"):

This doc does a good job at telling the early struggles of his journey, but it does not tell of his later exploits. After winning the Raja title, Changpuek went to the famous borderlands where Thai fighters go to challenge their rival Kun Khmer(Cambodian) and Lethwei(Myanmar) fighters. Fighting under the alias Pongtong Jetsada, he first he went to the Cambodian border and defeated many of the top Khmer warriors. With their pride at stake, the Khmer sent their champion to fight him, Keo Rumchong. The great fight that resulted can be viewed here:

The result is a controversial one, who do you think won?

He then traveled to the Myanmar border where he fought the former Lethwei nation champion, Win Tun. It was Lethwei rules, which means no gloves. Unfortunately Changpuek sustained an injury and could not continue after round 1, but the first round was still pretty awesome:

At this point Changpuek had gained some popularity and was noticed by K-1. He was selected to represent Thailand in the K-1 Asia MAX tournament in Korea. Here are his fights from it:

He was unfamiliar with KB rules and I'm not sure if he understood the scoring criteria, but he KO'd his first opponent before losing a close decision. While he did not fight again for K-1, he was signed by Chinese MMA and KB giant, KUNLUN FIGHT. Today they had an event and he was on the card. Here is the fight:

Changpuek's journey continues as he fights towards a shot at the Kunlun 145 lbs champion, the Chinese sensation Wei Ninghui who KO'd 3 top 10 world ranked fighters in one night to become the champion a few months ago. He will also have to contend with Petchtanong Banchamek, a young prodigy trained by Buakaw.

For any Francophones here in an article on him in French: http://www.siamfightmag.com/fr/fightcar ... of-siam-vi

Update: He has been signed to fight for Enfusion(biggest European promotion) in 2017. Unlike MMA, KB contracts are usually non-exclusive.

- I think the contracts used to be exclusive back in K1 gold days.
But if a promotion can`t put enough fights for a fighter in a period of time, he should be able to get fighters, the same with professional wrestling.

K-1 seems to let their guys fight in China all the time yet never in Glory. Maybe its just a coincidence but it sucks lol

The Euroscene is very focused on higher weight classes so its unlikely.
