A kickboxer is fighting for a boxing world title this weekend

Postby Luigi » Wed Nov 01, 2017 5:39 pm

Aside from the awesome MMA this weekend, we also get to see former kickboxing champion Sergei Lipinets fight for the 140 lbs boxing world title. Lipinets is 12-0 and has been smashing all his opponents. For the title he is facing Akihiro Kondo, who has a 29-6 pro record. The biggest star at 140 lbs right now is Terrence Crawford, but he has announced that he will be moving to 147 lbs, leaving a void in the division. The winner of the fight saturday will likely become the new star to fill that void.

Yes. He was the mandated challenger for the former champion Julius Indongo, but Indongo lost to Terrance Crawford, who is now moving up to 147. Ideally they would make Lipinets vs Indongo for the title but I guess Indongo wants to gain some momentum before fighting Lipinets so they went with Akihiro.

2017 has been crazy because for whatever reason the stars have been aligning and the best just keep fighting each other. The big exception is kickboxing at 65kg which just seems to be cursed.
