Introducing myself (Ayrshire Grappler).

Postby Ayrshire Grappler » Mon Feb 12, 2018 9:33 pm

Hi I am Ryan, I run a semi-popular BJJ related YouTube channel: Ayrshire Grappler

I was looking for ways to expand my channel and a friend & really awesome guy gave me some advice.

One of the things he told me to do was join this place & post my videos here. I think the words he used was, "Its full of cool, creative guys that love BJJ, MMA just like you."

So hello folks, I'll try posting & contributing when I can. Cheers!

Welcome!!

While it is true that this place has a good stock of "cool, creative guys that love BJJ, MMA just like you"... it is not true that posting here will significantly 'expand your YouTube channel' :D

We're a pretty obscure little indy corner of the web, some good company for sure but not any big traffic jams that will bring you hundreds of viewers

If that's cool with you you are most welcome to come aboard!

What is your BJJ history? In what ways (outside BJJ) might you consider yourself creative?

Hope to see you around, new faces here are always great. If you got some thick skin you may even begin to like some of us, lol

Creative outside BJJ? Mostly just hobbies, tshirt printing, tinkering with gadgets, stop motion animation, working with my son on his YouTube channel etc.. My main creative passion lately though has been my Ayrshire Grappler channnel.

Anyway, I've really been enjoying your work and hope you can keep it up.

A lot of the guys who these kinds of technical breakdowns burn bright but fizzle out. (Remember Judo Mat Lab?) It must be exhausting work not only to produce the videos, but to find inspiring matches, and dig up related clips. I hope the channel is rewarding enough for you that you'll keep it going for a couple years or more.

The main thing I like about your channel is you usually choose matches which are 1-sided technical shut-outs between two top competitors (usually the guy who loses doesn't score a single point). That makes for good breakdowns because nothing is accidental, happening by chance or a fluke victory. Instead, in these types of matches, one competitor is putting their A-Game on display, and we get to watch it be successful imposed against another respected, top-tier grappler, who is doing everything within their power to stop it.

How do you go about finding matches? Do you watch entire events, follow specific competitors, click around Youtube, see what people are talking about on reddit?
