i found the actual SI articlehttp://www.si.com/vault/1981/06/29/825752/letter-from-the-publisher and i added it to Pauls wikipedia page. We'll see how long it stays up. I agree, in light of all this info it's unlikely he was just a producer.

Here is a good THC I found where the guest adamantly believes that Terrence McKenna was pure CIA shill

He also gets pretty mad in the last half a few times, lol which is rare cuz usually THC is really good at keeping things cool.

Says even Alan Watts, Aldous Huxley, & the whole Leary gang were CIA goons pushing a very specific agenda. The host tries to explore different possibilities but the guest will have none of it, lol

I enjoyed Food of The Gods. I don't give a fuck if McKenna is a shill or not, good writer with interesting topics.

fucking A. agreed.

still not convinced he was a shill. that comment they attribute to him "confessing" is open for interpretation imo.

I think a lot of these 'CIA shills' are people who do what they do honestly, they just happen to serve a purpose to others and so are supported/funded. It definitely adds a bit of skepticism, but to think that the Doors weren't real musicians, or that McKenna didn't genuinely enjoy taking and talking about psychedelics I think is wrong.

I did a lot of psychedelics in my past and love listening to McKenna discuss them and how one comes back to see the 'real' world etc. Then again I did them AFTER the hippy era, outside of any such mainstream culture and influence. I can see the trends back in the day being of a slightly different nature, and possibly harmful to a lot of people.

Its an interesting ?. Great thread

I agree with your take on it Masato. Would be nice to have Megatherium who was there during the hippie days give his take on it. If I remember right he was very anti-hippie though.

Olde Phuque has stories. He was smuggling LSD from NYC to LA and up to Canada right at the peak of the hippie era.

Wish he would post more - YA HEAR ME OLDE PHUQUE???
