Going to play with concrete today

Postby penxv » Sat Jan 14, 2017 5:52 pm

I haven't tried to dye concrete w/ latex paint before but i'm going to do that a little later on.

For a coffee table and end table.

You can buy actual concrete dyes that work very well, adding latex to a concrete mix is likely to affect the bonding structure of concrete, but I'm curious to see how it turns out
People say they all want the truth, but when they are confronted with a truth that disagrees with them, they balk at it as if it were an unwanted zombie apocalypse come to destroy civilization.

Yeah, I know. The dye costs more than the concrete. I'm just using shit I have lying around for materials. I used old white paint. Turned it a lighter shade of grey. I threw some fire glass from a previous project on the bottom of the form and have some old acid etching solution that i'll use in a couple days (You're supposed to wait 28 days but I won't).

Also, I did some Google searching about using paint to dye concrete. One place said don't but who knows... another place said it was fine.

I actually just thought of a little trick that will let me get more creative with it. wish I thought of it before this first one.

Drill holes in the tips of the wood and shove pieces of coat hanger through them for rebar. Then everything doesn't have to be so square.

It came out very brittle and crumbly. Definitely does not work. I have to redo it. But it shouldn't set me back all that much effort. The legs and the form are already sized up.

It'll change the color of the concrete while you're mixing it. It gives you a different base color to etch and stain.
