Day #9

Tried to use ink last night for my first time life-drawing... was really thrown off/kind of screwed it up. Partially because I had no idea how to lifedraw with ink, and partially because the model was just so goddamn lovely lol

I had been drawing from a distance with conte on an easel for most of the night because I came late and it was full, but the last 2 poses there was room at the front, so I got my sketchbook and pens and got a little star-struck :D

falling behind on posts but not on the Inktober challenge... days have been busy but forcing in a drawing every day. Doing most at night, and rushing the shit out of them lol. I'm learning a good ink takes much more time and patience than a mere sketch, and don't make a stroke unless you are really sure why and where its going, lol

These suck but I am still learning lots.

#10 on the list I had was 'The Centaur', but I didn't use any reference and don't really know about horses lol. But at least I did the damn drawing for the day lol

#11 I decided to stray from the list and do something different, here are some sketchy caricatures from Kill Bill:

#12 I bit some doodles from Alex Toth, who I think I will study more of, he's really amazing. I went straight to ink with these, no undersketching which was scary but also I was seeing things a bit differently... have to experiment some more. Girl driving the car was a freestyle to go with the rips:

fuckin tired tonight, lol some crazy work days ahead but I won't back down :D

Here are the next 3... these are all studies of other inks I wanted to learn from... so I can't take credit for the cool designs.

I want to try to get a better sense of how different styles are approached, which ways I like best to draw. I thought it would be smart to just do some studies, learn from others' experience, get used to different lines etc.

I am also learning to balance the depth of a drawing with the time expected it should likely take. So far some of my Inktobers have been grander concepts than I had set aside the time for, so I rushed them and started inking before I had properly thought it out (centaur) :D

#16 - another study for some ideas of how to use the blacks/whites:

#17 a freestyle in a completely different direction, lol

I am learning most about TIMING realities/expectations... I am always in a hurry, and for these Inktober things I'm lucky if I can find just 1 hour to sit and do it. I'm learning what kinds of images can be done in 1 hour, and what can't. Sometimes I get discouraged when I see really fantastic shit online, but then I have to remember it probably took them a whole day or maybe 2 to do it.
