The Prophet - by Kahlil Gibran

Hey all,

This is one of my favourite books, ever. Easy to read, yet bottomless in its depth. Truly a work of divine inspiration if I ever saw one...

I have spent many all-nighters working in a trance while listening to this.

I am posting the entire audio-volume here, in order.

*but you don't need to read them in order! - each short chapter is its own, and you may flip through them as the various topics interest you.

The story is simple;

A man from afar has lived in this small town for a few years, and is about to leave and return to wherever he's from. Before he leaves, the people as him to share his wisdoms with them, as they had come to respect him during his time there.

Each short chapter is a topic or question that the people ask of him; "From Birth to Death", as it says.

All the themes of the human experience are there: Love, Work, Children, Housing, Marriage, Money, Laws, Crime, Freedom, Pain, Friendship, Beauty, Religion, Death, etc etc.

Each one is as wise to my eyes as any parable I've read in other holy texts... And more poetically written than most if I may say.

The first chapter may be a bit tough to get through, as it is different as the rest; it introduces the setup for the real content of the book. In chapter 2 you will find the rhythm of how it is written, and the value of this treasure.

So someone had the idea to make an animated movie about this book. Watched it last night with the kids, I really enjoyed.

They had to create a whole new storyline and characters for it, as the book really is just a collection of poetry with little plotline, but it was woven good enough I guess to wrap a film around the works...

Yet even with the gentle pacing, it still goes too fast to really let the writings sink in. This book is rich and every line can be pondered, I think a lot is missed. Many chapters the words became lyrics in songs which kind of go over your head imo

But the artwork is beautiful, characters are warm and Liam Neeson's voice is awesome, lol
