Ovince Saint Preux to fight Misha Cirkunov at UFC 235

By Alexander K. Lee @AlexanderKLee Jan 3, 2019

A battle of light heavyweight finishers has been booked for UFC 235.

Officials announced Thursday that a fight between Ovince Saint Preux (23-12) and Misha Cirkunov (14-4) will take place on March 2 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“OSP” is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Dominick Reyes at 229, his first time going to the scorecards in six fights. Prior being outpointed by Reyes, Saint Preux won four of five fights, all by submission or knockout. His most recent wins include finishes of Tyson Pedro, Corey Anderson, and Yushin Okami. In 18 UFC appearances, Saint Preux has collected five Performance of the Night bonuses.

Cirkunov has never seen a judges’ decision since joining the UFC three years ago. He is 5-2 in the Octagon, with all of his wins coming by finish, and he most recently stopped a two-fight skid by submitting Patrick Cummins via arm-triangle choke in just 2:40 at UFC Moncton in October.

Gokhan Saki vs. Saparbek Safarov announced for UFC London

By Alexander K. Lee @AlexanderKLee Jan 3, 2019

Gokhan Saki and Saparbek Safarov have their first fight of 2019 booked.

Officials announced Thursday that Saki (1-2) and Safarov (8-2) will meet in a light heavyweight bout at UFC London on March 16 at The O2 Arena. The event will air live on the ESPN+ streaming service.

Saki will look to rebound from a first-round KO loss to Khalil Rountree at UFC 226 in July. The 35-year-old Turkish-Dutch fighter made his Octagon debut last December with a first-round KO of his own against Henrique da Silva. A decorated kickboxer, who has competed for K-1 and Glory, Saki has competed just three times in MMA since making his debut in July 2004.

On a two-fight skid, Dagestan’s Safarov hasn’t won since April 2016. His UFC debut in December 2016 saw him lose via second-round TKO to Gian Villante and he wouldn’t compete again until 14 months later when he was submitted by Tyson Pedro inside of a round at UFC 221. Safarov was 8-0 as a pro before signing with the UFC and has never gone to a decision.

Anthony Pettis considers ‘taking his talents to welterweight’ for ‘Wonderboy’ fight

By MMA Fighting Newswire Jan 4, 2019

Could Anthony Pettis be bringing “Showtime” to the welterweight division?

The former UFC lightweight champion and one-time interim featherweight title challenger must be looking for fresh challenges in 2019 as he took to Instagram on Friday to ask fans if they want to see him move up to 170 pounds for a potential fight with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BsO0bMtDH4z/?utm_source=ig_embed

“Heard somebody is looking for a fight. What do you guys think?” Pettis wrote on a post accompanied by an image of himself and Thompson. “Take my talents to WW and take on the boy?”

Thompson, a two-time welterweight title challenger, had a somewhat quiet 2018, competing only once and losing a five-round unanimous decision to Darren Till in May’s UFC Liverpool headliner. Whenever he’s ready to fight again, it appears Pettis is at least open to the idea of welcoming Thompson back to the Octagon.

In 21 fights with the UFC and World Extreme Cagefighting, Pettis has only competed at 155 and 145 pounds, but given that he’s fought almost everyone there is to fight in those two divisions, it’s understandable that “Showtime” might be looking elsewhere for his next scrap. His most recent bout was a thriller against Tony Ferguson at UFC 229 in October that he lost after his corner called for a stoppage between rounds two and three.

Some big boxing rumors going around: Usyk is going to HW to fight Ortiz in his next fight - would be a huge first HW fight, one of the best in the division. Joshua vs Miller in april, which would be awesome because Im a big fan of Miller. And Shannon Briggs vs David Price also being talked about, which would be cool.

Rani Yahya vs. Ricky Simon added to UFC 234 in Australia

By Guilherme Cruz @guicruzzz Jan 8, 2019

Ricky Simon will meet jiu-jitsu specialist Rani Yahya at UFC 234 on Feb. 9 in Melbourne, Australia. MMA Fighting confirmed the booking with multiple sources following a report by Combate.

Simon (14-1) was originally slated to face Ricardo Ramos on Nov. 10, but was left hanging without an opponent after “Carcacinha” suffered an injury. Winner of seven in a row, the former LFA bantamweight champion defeated Merab Dvalishvili and Montel Jackson under the UFC banner in 2018.

Yahya (26-9, 1 no-contest) is one of the most dangerous grapplers in mixed martial arts and looks to score his fourth straight victory after submitting Henry Briones, Russell Doane and Luke Sanders in his most recent UFC appearances. Yahya has won seven of his last eight since cutting back down to 135 pounds.

UFC 234 will take place at Rod Laver Arena and features Robert Whittaker vs. Kelvin Gastelum for the middleweight championship in the main event. Legendary middleweight Anderson Silva faces rising star Israel Adesanya in the co-main event slot.

Jake Hager on comparisons to Brock Lesnar ahead of Bellator 214: ‘My hands are better’

By Jose Youngs @JoseYoungs Jan 15, 2019

Jake Hager isn’t trading in his wrestling trunks for a pair of mixed martial arts gloves.

In fact, the man known as Jack Swagger among professional wrestling fans, plans to balance life both inside the cage with life inside the square circle.

But for now, Hager is solely focused on his upcoming professional MMA debut at Bellator 214 later this month.

A collegiate wrestling standout out of the University of Oklahoma, Hager joins the likes of Brock Lesnar as former NCAAA Division I wrestling All-Americans turned WWE Superstars to make the jump into the world of MMA.

But, for Hager, that’s where the comparison ends.

“We both have big teeth and no necks,” joked Hager when asked about any similarities between himself and Lesnar during the Bellator 214 media call. “What Brock did was incredible. He raised the bar to new heights, to something a lot of people didn’t think would ever happen. To have entertainers cross over into this highly physical industry. It’s the toughest sport int he world, bar none. Before I started training for MMA, I was like ‘I’ve wrestled all of my life, I know how to train hard.’ No. MMA training is way hard than wrestling and it has proven that over the last year and a half.

“But if I could make some comparison to me and Brock, I’d say very similar wrestling, though he might have the edge on that, but I think my hands are better.”

Outside of Lesnar, Hager also joins Phil Brooks, also known as CM Punk, among his fellow WWE alum to don the four-ounce gloves.

Brooks (0-2) previously made waves in the fight world when he jumped ship from the WWE to the UFC in 2016. While he hasn’t had the same success as Lesnar, a former UFC champion, inside the Octagon, Brooks’s name has dominated the headlines during the leadup to both of his fights.

But according to Hager, his decision to pursue MMA was made long before Brooks’ foray into combat sports

“I first got the bug [to compete] about the same time [Bellator light heavyweight champion] Ryan [Bader] did,” said Hager. “We were both in college at the same time. So our junior and senior years, my teammates at Oklahoma started delving into it. Then, back in 2013, an ex-teammate of mine, Matt Grice, was fighting for the UFC in Tampa, where I live, and we went to the fight. From then on, I had the bug. So, it wasn’t a matter of if it was a matter of when I crossed into the MMA world.”

When Hager finally does make the walk to the cage, he will stand opposite J.W. Kiser (1-1). A fellow Bellator newcomer, Kiser is looking to pick up his second straight win after earning a first-round TKO over Michael Edwards in December.

For Hager, the opponent doesn’t matter. He not only plans on sticking around in Bellator but envisions himself competing among the elite of the heavyweight division while earning as much money as possible.

“I would love to be in the finals of a Heavyweight Grand Prix,” said Hager. “I left a giant company, making hundreds of thousands of dollars for a chance to cross over into another industry. So, it’s a big investment on myself and a huge risk as far as career goes. This is very serious for me. This is life. Nobody loves cash more than I do and I want more of it. I don’t need it all, I just need a lot.”

- Last UFC was agood event. But the Hardy fight was bad! Guy would get a heart atack going to a grocery store. He discovered the hard way that without a massive amout of ped he is just like every-one else.

Kane would crush this bum so easy!
Bigger, stronger, faster, superior athlete and can do iron-man matchs at 50!
