Glen Keane breaks down Ollie Johnston's Animation

Postby Masato » Wed Jan 14, 2015 10:58 am

Hey all

Glene Keane is one of the living masters of classical hand-drawn animation.

Ollie Johnston was one of the 'Nine Old Men' of the golden years of Disney, who basically created the artform with the others of his time.

Here Glen talks about how he sees the animation of Ollie.

Very cool stuff

WOW here is a vid showing Keane's pencil tests on TARZAN.

Tarzan came out right while I was in the thick of animation school, and it blew my mind. Keane's creation of the Tarzan character is downright amazing.

here is another short by Keane that is just crazy good:

Here's another rough scene by Glen Keane

Sometimes I think he may have even surpassed the Nine Old Men. Astounding skill

These are cool, i'd like to compare these compositions to the new jungle book movie which just came out. Which by the way we went to see with my son last night.

That movie is absolutely indistinguishable from real life. The animation is so breathtakingly real it astounded me. I've never seen anything like it. And the movie itself was pretty good. Aside from the tried and true villain evil aspect present in all Disney movies
People say they all want the truth, but when they are confronted with a truth that disagrees with them, they balk at it as if it were an unwanted zombie apocalypse come to destroy civilization.
