For the record, I am a fan of Al's.

His movie UHF is fucking hilarious, (or at least was to me when I was a kid, haven't seen it since)

I think he is a total original and does it very, very well.

Plus the production value of his work is top notch. The sound is always perfect, videos of high quality, even back in the day. As far as I know Weird Al writes, directs, art-directs, and masterminds the whole thing.

I have no idea as to the truth, but my impression was that he was NOT ridiculing CTs with that vid. He doesn't play the character of the tinfoil hatter like an idiot (as he does with other roles where he is ridiculing a stereotype)... he has a real determined face on him. Plus the cameraman freaking out and saying 'cut', etc.

I think he was making a statement but knew exactly how far was too far, and to keep it in the realm of comedy as to not to rock his professional boat.

Like I said, very smart dude.

Al Yankovic has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid as well. I have followed his career (up to his 'Jurrasic Park' album)

And I agree that he is a smart mofo - borderline brilliant if you ask me. But no...
I dont think there was anything necessarily implied in his video. He (quite possibly) chose the more common and low hanging conspiracy fruit for the purposes of his parodycore.

Even IF he were taking a jab, I seriously doubt it would be that obvious :)

Would be interesting to hear Weird Als views on the structures of existence from his point of view and leanings. The world has changed so much since the 80's that he doesnt seem so weird anymore. Maybe its just me and I dont find weird things to be so weird anymore. I dont know

I have never really considered Alberto to be 'weird' per se, but more 'different'

But then again 'Different' Al might not be as marketable :lol:

I have always idolized Weird Al as a songwriter as he and his band seem to have one of the 'easier' jobs when it comes to the creativity side of it.
The music or musical 'style' has already been laid out for them - now its just a matter of putting the appropriate lyrics to it all. (And of course) this is where is real talent shines through.
The cool thing about it is, regardless of whatever album he puts out - it will almost ALWAYS be popular (as he tends to cover/style artists that are trending at the time).

the earworm has already been planted. the hook already in. all he has to do is parody it, which he does so well.

you almost can't miss w/this formula.

Think of how much work goes into his videos, the quality of the recordings, and his performance...

Not easy

He has had much time over the years to further perfect his craft, and like I said - parodying/styling the Billboards Top 100 artists in his releases helps keep him that much more relevant in the music world.

Its kind of nice to finally see him fall into the mainstream a little bit more now.

But in no way shape or form is it 'easy'.

Weird Al just makes it look that way :)
