Big Ears: report points to fatal attack and police investigate coercion of a doorman
Forensic examination confirmed fractures in the animal's skull; police analyze the cell phones of those under investigation and investigate an attempt to intimidate the doorman.

New details from the investigation reveal the violence that led to the death of the dog Orelha, in Florianópolis. A veterinary report indicated serious injuries to the animal's skull, while the Civil Police are investigating an alleged attempt to coerce a doorman who recorded the suspects' movements.

The examination conducted on January 5th indicates that Orelha suffered fractures to his jaw and maxilla, in addition to exhibiting a slow heartbeat and difficulty breathing. For investigators, there is no doubt that the dog was the victim of a fatal attack.

Initially, four teenagers were considered suspects. However, the course of the investigation changed after testimonies and analysis of security camera footage. One of the youths was no longer investigated after his family proved that he was not at the crime scene.

According to Detective Renan Balbino, who is in charge of the case, the teenager was able to demonstrate that he was not even at Praia Brava on the days the crime occurred.

The Civil Police should begin, this week, the forensic examination of cell phones and other electronic equipment belonging to those under investigation. In addition, one of the teenagers who recently returned from a trip is expected to give a statement in the coming days.

Doorman allegedly intimidated, investigation says

Another central point of the investigation involves a doorman in the area. He allegedly recorded photos and videos of the teenagers and shared the material on a social network, accompanied by an audio recording describing problems with the group.

According to the police, the parents of two teenagers and the uncle of a third allegedly went to the building's entrance to intimidate the employee. Security cameras in the building recorded the alleged attempt at coercion.

Family Members of Teenagers Indicted

On January 27th, the Santa Catarina Police indicted three family members of the teenagers investigated for the dog's death for witness intimidation. These are the parents and uncle of some of those involved.

According to the police, there is no video from the day of the crime. There is only one photo shared in a group, which does not show the moment of the aggression, but is related to the teenagers under investigation.

The police also clarified that the investigation is proceeding along two distinct lines. One investigates the aggressions against the dog Orelha and against Caramelo, another community dog that suffered an attempted drowning, as well as thefts related to a stall and property damage, involving the teenagers. The other line investigates possible crimes of coercion.

Regarding the death of the dog Orelha

Orelha lived for about 10 years in the vicinity of Praia Brava and was collectively cared for by the community. Residents took turns feeding him, cleaning his makeshift doghouses, changing his blankets, and monitoring his daily life, making him a part of the neighborhood's routine.

At the beginning of the month, after disappearing for two days, the community dog reappeared severely injured. He was rescued and taken for veterinary care, but, given the severity of his injuries and suffering, he had to be euthanized. Examinations and assessments ruled out being hit by a car and indicated that the injuries were caused by abuse.

According to the Civil Police, the dog was a victim of violence committed by four teenagers. Two of them were in Santa Catarina and the other two in the United States (USA), on a "planned trip," and were apprehended on January 29th.

Last Monday (26), the police carried out searches at the homes of the teenagers involved in the assault. In one of the residences, a quantity of drugs was found. In addition, cell phones and telephones were seized.

The investigation remains confidential.

That is horrible

Where is the part about the revolt?

What kind of human could beat a dog? I will never understand.

A friend of mine when I was a teenager used to beat his dog, sometimes painfully. It shocked me, I still think of it.

I have a few other memories of dogs in pain, they are awful.

I read something wacky the other day, some new age weirdo had a theory that dogs were actually some kind of unique soul group that are sent to us as transmitters of Love and a love-frequency etc. I forget the rest it was pretty out there but it did make me realize that dogs, unless abused, do carry this overflow of pure love and happiness, especially around people. What would the world be without them??

I hope the teenagers are either proven guilty or proven innocent
