NDP tries to criminalize "residential school denialism"

Don't they understand that criminalizing any sort of 'denialism' throws us all down that slippery slope (cliff?) of censorship, thought-crimes, free speech, truth-police, etc?

It doesn't matter the topic, anyone that seriously tries to push for these sort of laws either have something to hide, or they haven't thought it through fully how it will inevitably completely fuck up an entire culture. Residential School 'denialism', Holocaust 'denialism', Climate Change 'denialism', covid vax 'denialism', etc etc etc. What a tangled web they weave...


Ironically, laws set against the First Nations making it illegal to speak their own language or follow their traditions is what supporters of these new 'denialism' laws are supposedly trying to bring attention to, lol. hypocrites.


This whole issue I think is being played disingenuously. They focus on the single issue of the 'mass-graves', as if that one detail alone will set the tone for the entire residential school history. ie; Either there are mass graves, which means they can keep pushing the white man bad agenda, and they can keep pushing the land acknowledgements & reparations/guilt agendas, 'giving' land back (under the guise of the UN, etc)

Or there are NOT any mass graves found, which folks are also using to suggest that the residential schools were a fine thing and all the complaints of First Nations about them are bogus. This is also dumb. Obviously it was a dark history that almost completely wiped out indigenous cultures, but no one alive today can truly verify exactly how bad it was. Or if they can, they can only speak for 1 school, at 1 specific point in time.

Both are stupid extremes imo. The True North guy is correct; just because no bodies have been found (yet) doesn't mean there weren't horrific things that happened. I am sure lots of kids were trafficked or killed, and I am sure that some of these residential schools were genocidal nightmares. In fact if kids were killed/trafficked etc, it's not likely they would be buried all in 1 place, they would have been trafficked to all sorts of places and killed abroad, imo.


Is that so hard for Canada to agree that the history was awful, but maybe there are no mass graves to find? Is it so hard to agree that some of the schools were probably very nasty, some were great, and most were somewhere in between?
Is that so hard to agree on?

Once again, politics in Canada insisting on extreme polarization of an issue, so endless fighting can ensue.
