Owner of car that exploded in front of the STF was a candidate for councilor for SC and anticipated the attack

Explosive devices were found in the Santa Catarina man’s car; one person died at the scene

The car that exploded in Praça dos Três Poderes on Wednesday night (13) belonged to Francisco Wanderley Luiz, 59 years old. A native of Santa Catarina, he was a candidate for councilor in Rio do Sul in the 2020 elections and anticipated the attack in a post on social media.

According to Metrópoles, Francisco left his children in the city of Santa Catarina after family fights and lost contact with his family. The adopted son, Guilherme Antônio, seeks information about the man, who allegedly said that his goal was to travel and reach Chile.

In social media posts, Francisco suggested bomb attacks against politicians he referred to as “shit communists.” There is still no information regarding the identity of the man killed after the explosions.

Witnesses reported that they saw a man arrive at the scene with two bombs. He would have thrown one of the artifacts against the statue 'Justice', which is in front of the main building of the Supreme Court, and the second bomb would have exploded in his hand.

Several explosive devices were found inside Francisco's car, according to the Military Police. “The car has some kind of bomb. There are several fractionated explosives tied with bricks around them, but the explosives were not fully ignited”, said Sergeant Santos, from the DF PM. The place was isolated.

“The individual ran away and we believe he was leaving there. It seems to me that it is the same person who tried to set off an explosion here (in the car), failed and ran to the STF. We believe it is the same person who is dead”, added the police officer.

Because of the explosions, the STF ministers were removed from the building, as well as the civil servants and others present at the Court's headquarters.
