The dark world of early 3D open world video games

Postby Luigi » Wed Jul 15, 2020 3:22 am

I remember as a kid when 3D games were first becoming a thing we had windows 95 and I was playing this game based on the popular Beast Wars tv show. You roamed around in a quiet dark world where the large blank polygons loaded in and out of existence to materialize that which is close to you and dematerialize that which gets further away. It gives an odd foggy feel, its so unlike the natural world yet you feel its so much more of a world than the 2D sidescrolling of super mario. Recently Ive been playing Atari Jaguar and 3DO and there are a lot of games like that with the same dark strange world that was forced by the hardware limitations of the time:

Cybermorph:

I - War:

Immercenary:

Wow what the hell was that last vid? With live action characters and a movie-like story about the 'Whore of Babylon'??

Pretty far out for a video game of that era...

WTF

I have 2 Atari jaguars actually
People say they all want the truth, but when they are confronted with a truth that disagrees with them, they balk at it as if it were an unwanted zombie apocalypse come to destroy civilization.

I used to, someone broke into my house a number of years back and stole the larger part of my collection, was not freaking happy about that.

That sucks, I think we might have talked about this before but my crazy university roommate stole my Genesis and NES(I had a spare NES though).

- I played Batman and Robin daily. Even thought that type of game got repetitive! :geek:

- I rent this space for advertising

Don't be selfish, preserve this world for the next generations.

I'll never long for what might have been
Regret won't waste my life again
I won't look back I'll fight to remain

Potato quality is from the youtube video resolution, not the game. This game just blew my socks off:
