I don't know much about anime, but Miyazaki from Studio Ghibli might be my favourite artist. Have enjoyed all his films, and one reason among many others is the amazing BACKGROUNDS.
I hear a lot of these are done for next to slave labour, lol - but they are damn good on the eyes nonetheless.
