My name's Edward and I am a graduate student at the U of Minnesota in geographic information science (the MGIS programme). I was invited to join the forum by SR Brant through my membership in his Kitsune Society; I have made a couple maps detailing long-term growth prospects for the organization in a certain GIS software package made in Redlands, California.
My interests (in addition to making thematic maps) begin with writing; when I'm not working on my studies, I am writing a fanfiction that combines characters from the TV shows Littlest Pet Shop and South Park. In it, the characters team up with a couple other characters I made up myself in an endeavour to restore freeform radio. To that end, they form an order called the Freeform Peers, consisting of six male peers, six female peers and a young adult leader named Istvan Doyle. More about that in other posts. Speaking of freeform, rare rock and metal from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s is another of my key interests. I have long enjoyed that era and those genres and have for much of that span dreamed of starting a station dedicated to such music, presumably online and running the freeform format.
I also enjoy collecting box scores from sporting events and analyzing them to see what the competing teams did right or wrong, having been a numbers guy from day one. On a related note, I enjoy collecting stadium data, especially for sports such as baseball and various codes of football (American, Canadian, soccer, rugby). Other interests include political analysis, especially agitating for a proportional method of voting where it doesn't yet exist, and philosophy.
All told, I look forward to participating in intelligent discussions concerning a wide variety of topics on this forum.

You certainly may make me an avatar based on one of the characters I intend to use. I got the idea for a Freeform Peerage from the quasi-historical legend of Charlemagne (from whom I'm descended, believe it or not) and his twelve peers. Like the peers of Charlemagne, the thirteen Freeform Peers (including their leader, Istvan Doyle) typically fight on horseback (although they are definitely capable of fighting on foot as well). Unlike those knights in iron armour, however, my peers wear light Kevlar body armour and their weaponry consists not of lances and broadswords but sabres for melee engagements and Kalashnikov rifles for ranged combat. The fanfic IS intended to be a war epic, after all, on the lines of Tolstoi's War and Peace.
Again, I'll expound further in future posts, maybe on a different thread or in a different forum. For now, I'm just letting you know how you should depict a Freeform Peer for my avatar.

Dude - Advent is an irreplacable asset to the Kitsune Society. Without him, the group would still be floundering in development hell and his knowledge and wisdom is almost unrivaled within our ranks. He also had an encounter with a fox similar to yours. Tell him, Advent.
I look forward to conversing more...
Very loaded up with work for a while - give me a week I'll make you a nice avatar
