CMPunk probably thinks he's going to do a real MMA match. Lol.

I'd be shocked if Gall isn't throwing the fight.

None of this surprises me, though this is the first I've heard that they have an opponent. After nearly going broke for the first five years pushing a pure sport mma promotional model the Maceo-Fertitta gang finally had had enough of bleeding the old man's fortune, held their noses and cashed in on Shammy, TUF, the Vince McMahon tough guy promoter persona via the Spike TV Dana vs Tito grudge match special and anything else they could lift from WWE. And they've been riding the proverbial gravy train ever since, I only expect the lines to get further blurred, the commissions are now putty in their hands, I'm sure they could do anything Pride ever did in Japan stateside now. It's going to be whatever the public can stomach from here on in I'm afraid.

First I heard of this Dana youtube tough guy channel too, thanks for the info.

NY state needs to strike now and approve rules and a ring that Zuffa can't live with. Corner the sporting alternative market.

That's a good point. If they legalized mixed martial arts but not doing it in cages, the UFC wouldn't even bother with NY.

I'm 75% sure that Daniel Bryan guy will be next. Maybe they announce it after CMPunk gets himself a win.

Yeah, no cages allowed, safer rules, maybe jackets and shoes, that sort of thing. Tweak it enough to make it interesting and different. And then ridicule the UFC brand as human cockfighting. I know I'd enjoy that.

NY is the last chance to install a competing vision and it won't be there forever. I'd like to see people inside the industry pushing to make something happen there. I don't think they're holding out out of some deep seeded hatred of martial arts, they just hate anti union thuggery getting it's way all the time imo.

Something like this wouldn't be unprecedented either. The NY commission is powerful; they had their own world heavyweight boxing champion back when Ali was suspended. While most other states recognized the winner of the WBA televised tournament, Jimmy Ellis, they secured the top guy, Joe Frazier to fight his Olympic trials nemesis Buster Mathis for their version of the title in Madison Square.

Sure. Big city, big spotlight.
