1973's Top Ten Films...
Haven't seen a lot of those, but yes that was definitely a high era for movie making.
I remember John Milius once talking about how movies changed; it used to be about the art, the director would be trusted 100% to create his vision, and films were unique. Then somehow the money changed and they became products of production houses. The directors had to share the decision making with a committee of shareholders etc and the films lost their unique character, and all started looking and feeling the same.
What fun it would have been to make movies in the 70's!
I knew a girl once who was obsessed with 1960's B movies with hot chicks and muscle cars etc, lol
That was a cool era too, where it was OK to make B movies. Like the punk rock of cinema lol
Oh and doesn't Enter the Dragon still look absolutely badass? Even with the test of time, it's the coolest looking movie in that list. That would have been fun to have seen it come out in it's day, to go to a cinema to watch it.
We used to have so few, would have to wait for years for our favourites, and couldn't watch at home until VHS, which was still low quality. Going to the movies was a big deal, at least it was to me.
Today, kids are growing up with no respect for the cinema, or movies in general. They have thousands, all at the touch of their fingertips wherever they go. They can pause, re-watch, check their TikTok while watching etc. Most are junk.
I wonder if humanity will ever re-learn the pleasure and ritual of 'going to the movies'.
I still remember when people would cheer during movies, and even applaud at the end, even though no one is there to personally receive the applause, lol.
80's was good for movies too. Quality of script and acting may have gone down, but the fun went way up

That was quite a year alright. The seventies in general was probably the best decade for movies.
