WHO makes wars possible? WHY are they fought?
Why we BELIEVE they're 'bout 'freedom'... and why they are NOT.
I support care for veterans, but not the fairytales of ill.
NOT wearing a poppy... I wonder if Harper will.
remembrance day makes me ill
Posts and memes 'Thanking soldiers for their service'... stuff about 'their sacrifice so we can be free', and 'those who continue to serve so that we can be free today'... etc etc etc
EVERYWHERE
Western culture has this unconscious belief that WWI and WWII were somehow completely different from the wars we have today. We've completely extracted every element of what we despise about the wars of today from the narrative, and are left with a romantic tale of heroes, good and evil that was never the case.
Winners wrote the history and textbooks, and there was no internet at the time to call out the BS.
This day is hard for me to be anywhere near the internet... it is so full of bedtime story Pro-War nationalistic racist rhetoric it makes my head spin.
Yay corporate war and lies.

Remembrance Day is sad for me. The guys on the front line really feel that they are fighting the good fight. They think they are helping to protect their fellow countrymen. However, there hasn't been a legitimate war for I long time.
I do appreciate that the majority of servicemen are trying to do the right thing. It's just a crying shame that the same can't be said for the people that are in charge.

The only time I've seen mine or anyone else's freedoms taken away it was by governments. Seems the soldiers are killing the wrong people in my estimation.
People say they all want the truth, but when they are confronted with a truth that disagrees with them, they balk at it as if it were an unwanted zombie apocalypse come to destroy civilization.
As a "veteran" I fully support this thread. I did 6 months of "peacekeeping", thank fuck I didn't kill anyone.
Top quality posts by everyone.
Thanks guys, yesterday was really quite depressing how many people I saw blurting out meaningless pro-war slogans all day.
The worst part is how fucking vicious and nasty they get if you suggest anything otherwise. The less they know about the true nature of war, the more violent they seem to react when you don't follow suit. Its like an inverse equation. I was quite afraid of my fellow man yesterday, and even some of my friends. Scary feeling.
I could see very clearly how EASY it is to get people to take arms and go to war. Fucking EASY. People eat this shit up and lock away their brains.
Zombie Apocalypse indeed?

It's ridiculous and just as you say the proportions are inverse. It's mostly scumbags that would never see fighting nor ever have that are all "Let's turn Arabia into a glass desert WOOOOHOOO!" Incentives to join the armed forces need to be decreased. They really need to be their peoples servants, shame is that they think they are.
Poppies = PRO-War propaganda disguised as ANTI-War Propaganda

Yeah we "celebrate" it here, I dont let my kids go to school on that day so they learn nothing about it.
Apparently Australian soldiers fought and died for MY freedom, last time I checked Australia had a Policy in place during the great wars called the WHITE AUSTRALIA POLICY so they sure werent fighting for me.
Its just a day for the Anglo Saxon Judeo-Christian alliance to celebrate their war mongering ways.
China and India are going to tap them hard soon.
