Need ideas for a new project

So I'm working on a new project and would be interested in getting some new ideas from you guys.

I'm looking for a mix of conspiracy theories and ways that a Government could control the population. Let me know what you guys thing are current, but can also be timeless.

There are many ways to paint a fictional government of control... I would suggest to make a sort of caricature of the IMAGE of government you want to instil in your audience and start building it from there.

Is it a trigger-happy, blood-thirsty evil predatorial monster?
A shrewd 'Yes We Can', kitten-holding, master of mind-fucking?
How extreme vs how realistic/informative?
