PUNK Shows 2024 until>

Postby Masato » Tue Sep 24, 2024 6:00 pm

When I was younger I used to have a ton of fun going to punk shows, getting all messed up in the mosh pits etc to my favourite bands.

Then somehow I got married had kids and got old and just stopped for like 25 years.

Last month however I realized this is foolish and I made a vow to start going to punk shows again whenever a band was near that I liked.
So far it has been a very good decision lol

Most of these I went alone, which was really great to be honest, I could just let go without anyone watching to be embarrassed for lol. They have all been very uplifting experiences, really cathartic and wonderful to be honest.
I really enjoy being right in the thick of the mosh pits, rocking out and getting all sweaty and gross with all the hardcore punk fans. I will never understand why mofos stand 100 feet back and just watch, nodding their heads softly to the beat, lol. You gotta get IN there, man, punk shows are a fully immersive experience.

I plan to keep going, not gonna miss any good bands anymore without a good excuse.

This week I'm going to see the Dropkick Murphys in Toronto, which I think could be really great, never seen them before.

Anyways, I will keep an archive of the shows in this thread.
I try to put my phone away for the shows but I'll snap a few sweet spots when I get tired of smashing around :D

This all started with ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES

August 2024.
I went with my teen son, it was a good introduction to the scene, he is big and strong enough to get in near the fun and seemed to have caught the vibe (he doesn't listen to punk).
We had a good time.

That's when I promised myself I was gonna keep my eyes open for more.

Next was the NOFX 'Punk in Drublic' Tour.

Toronto, Aug 2024

NOFX is probably my all time favourite punk band.
These songs were absolute gold for me for many years, I truly love this band.

They threatened that this would be their last tour ever, so unless I called their bluff, it might be the last chance to see them. I'd seen them twice when I was younger they are the fuckin best.

There was a huge rain storm the day of the event, I drove right into it but then when I got there it cleared up and they started letting people in. I had no idea so many punks still existed lol. There were thousands, except now they all looked old :D

Its very possible that in a few years there will literally be no punk bands left to see, they are all old dudes now.

Because of the rain a lot of acts got cancelled. Next were the Circle Jerks which I never much cared for, they were alright, I took a break and walked around during most of their set.

Then to my surprise the REAL MCKENZIES closed out the night, and they were fucking awesome;

This was I think the last song of the night. I'd already left the pit but to watch this from a distance was pretty beautiful:

The INTERRUPTERS
Buffalo, NY

This show was fun, The Interrupters are more of a ska band than a punk band but their songs are just so damned good lol

Driving to Buffalo was fun, I went on my own. There's a lot of beautiful old architecture in Buffalo, tales of another World's Fair back in the day where everything got destroyed like everywhere else. A hotspot if you like those sort of theories

Crowd was more tame than others, some families even brought their kids which was pretty fun to see.
The opening acts were kind of lame but they had fun with the kids and we all sort of taught them how to mosh lol

But by the time the Interrupters came on, the kids got out of the way and it got pretty good.

A LOT of fun.
This is therapy for me lol :D

Dropkick Murphys

Show was great. I went with my son and nephew. They both listen almost exclusively to rap, so it's probably pretty alien to them still but I think they enjoyed.

The sound was a bit echoed/muffled, not very crisp but whatever. I would like to see them as a smaller venue with better sound one day, I'll keep watch.

The mosh pit was great, lots of people crowdsurfing etc.

I didn't take much video though, I caught this singalong moment but missed a lot of good faster stuff, people were rocking out man

I would see them again
