If you;ve dug around this rabbit hole of the Millennial Reign, you will know that there were in fact a surprising amount of insane asylums around the turn of the century, and almost all of them were in enormous grandiose buildings of the finest architecture.
I cannot verify any of these but if true it makes things a little more interesting.
I wonder if there are any true records of those institutions, might be worth hunting for
