JUST finished watching... Was needed doing last minute shit at the wife's studio. Then busy all day today I just chilled the fuck out and enjoyed it a lot.

I blame Renzo for the slow action. I believe Saku was ready to put on a show and take risks, Renzo locked him up in guard half the fight and did little.

Hope Metamoris grows, but they will need more finishes. Haven't watched all the matches but it seems at first glance most went the distance, no?

It's really hard to submit high level grapplers without striking. That's just how it is. Hell, last time I rolled my opponent didn't get the submission despite dominating me position wise. Just getting a takedown is tough. I once managed to stall with Ara Abrahamian for like 2 minutes until he tossed me on my ass and I don't consider myself a high-level grappler.

^ yeah well that seemed to be the case @ Metamoris 5. All matches but 1 went to a draw.

Its an interesting debate what kind of rules are best for grappling events; Metamoris has long matches with no points and no re-starts etc. This is true to BJJ roots and encourages people to win by sub and not stall for points... but on the other hand it can also = 25 minutes of 2 guys stuck in the same position.

I was gonna invite a non-martial arts friend to watch it with me, but my plans fell through and I'm kind of glad for his sake, lol - I'm sure to someone like that it would appear boring as fuck

I actually prefer watching gi competition rather than no-gi. too much time hand-fighting in no-gi... with a gi you just grab and engage. it's really hard for a non-grappler to appreciate since you really need to be familiar with the techniques in order to understand whats going on. To the untrained eye, they just see 2 guys holding and moving a bit here and there, all the time thinking that these positions are strikingly homosexual, then one guy taps out and they have no idea what just happened. I think Pancrase had a good format where they allowed open hand strikes, but still focussed on the grappling. I miss those rules!

Heh, I started "MMA" at Pancrase Gym in Stockholm.
The gi makes your game a lot tighter than no-gi. I don't like watching grappling though, find it boring. Lethwei is the ruleset to go with.

Swedes are actually really good at Greco-Roman wrestling. They get olympic medals in it now and then. Also I agree that Lethwei rules are the best.
