There are several classical Sankrit words for it. Sanskrit has been used by common folk for about 1,500 and no Tamil and Telegue are not classical Sanskrit.
The South American variety of chillies came to India in the 15th centuary but they had similar seeded plant fruit, Fiji even has a native chillie plant they also had the Polynesian fowl pre- whiteys arrival until my grandfather hunted them into extinction he also cut down all the sandalwood trees on the Western Islands and made our family quite wealthy as a result.
Europeans cant handle chillies unless its for a "dare" or youtube video to get "hits"....
Show me ONE European culture that eats fresh chillies (hot ones) for breakfast, lunch and dinner..... my mum even makes chillie curries.

Vutu it's not COULDN'T it's WOULDN'T. I prefer sour and salty snacks as my "kap kem" or drinking snacks. With my Isaan Sausage I always eat "prik kee noo" or mouse shit chilis. Apparently I got drunker than usual last night and I've offended my apt buildings handyman in some way. ees normal.
